Bishop Evans’ actions at our border are heroic amid chaos that must stop

When politics gets in the way of what is right, people die. And in the case of Special Bishop E. Evans of the Texas National Guard, a very good person and true American hero died.

By sacrificing himself for someone else, especially one he did not know, specialist Evans showed what is best about humanity.

He saw an illegal border crossing giant in the Rio Grande River and without another thought dive into the water to save a fellow human being. For Evans, it did not matter where the fighter came from, her legal status, or what other activities she might have been involved in – all that mattered was that she was in need and needed help.

He did the right thing.

Is it not time for the Biden administration to follow specialist Evans’ example?

If history holds true, none of us should wait for hope.

President Biden has repeatedly proven that his main goal is to play politics with the lives of American citizens and not just on the border. His open border policies have led to thousands of deaths nationwide. A record number of our children and friends overdose on dangerous substances that cross our southwestern border with Mexico.

But it is not just American citizens who are paying the price. It is also the thousands of migrants who, because of Biden’s policy, are willing to put their lives in the hands of transnational criminal cartels whose sole purpose is to make a profit.

In July 2021, the U.S. Border Patrol detected and apprehended more than 213,000 illegal border crossings. A two-decade high for the U.S. Border Patrol to that point.

BRANDON JUDD ON TEXAS SOLDIER DEATH AT THE BORDER: ‘THIS DIDN’T HAVE TO HAPPEN’

At the time, any border patrol agent felt it would be the turning point and that we had reached our ceiling. Unfortunately, it was not.

By sacrificing himself for someone else, especially one he did not know, specialist Evans showed what is best about humanity.

In fact, we continued to set a record for arrests in a fiscal year, and we could very well have set a record in the number of deaths among migrants succumbing to the harsh elements of the desert, mainly because the smugglers left them for the only sin: not being able to follow. The total death toll is not inside, but it continues to rise.

This current month of April is another good indicator of how much this administration does not care about life. To this point in April, we have already had 10 drowned in the Del Rio sector. In the previous six months, we had a total of 15 drowned.

As you can see, the numbers continue to rise, but the administration is not providing any new resources, policies or operations to combat the chaos we see every day at the border.

Like many of the brave men and women in the U.S. Border Patrol, I have personally participated in more than a few rescues over the course of my career, and like Specialist Evans, it did not matter who was in need or where they came from, it was just that a person’s life was in danger.

The chaos must stop, and the heroic actions of Specialist Bishop E. Evans must never be forgotten. But unless this administration chooses to prioritize the welfare of fellow human beings over political ambitions and party power, there are certainly more lives to be lost.

There are solutions, but without the political will to go against advocates of open borders, the solutions will never be implemented by this administration.
