Kevin Campbell believes that Nicolas Pepe has no future Arsenal with the winger have not started a Premier League match in six months.

Pepe, 26, was signed by the Gunners in 2019 for over £ 70 million, but has struggled to make a mark at the club since his move from Lille.

This season he has hardly been under manager Mikel Arteta, where he has only played 17 league games.

Campbell, the former Arsenal striker, believes the Ivorian was overpriced, pointing out that he does not possess the correct attitude to play for his old side.

In a speech to Football Insider, he said: ‘Arsenal paid over the odds for him. It just did not succeed. It’s that simple. He’s a talented player, that’s for sure. But he has not succeeded.

‘You see the intensity and focus that Mikel Arteta wants the team to play with. I do not think Pepe fits into that. He’s a drifter. He will concentrate a little and then drift out again.

‘I said just before Christmas that it was some big months to wait for Pepe. That should determine whether he had a future at Arsenal or not. Well, he does not have a future at Arsenal. ‘

According to The Sun, Arteta are set to let Pepe go for £ 25 million this summer, which would represent a significant loss on the fee paid to the former Little Man three years ago.

With just eight goals, Pepe endured a difficult first season in north London, but looked to turn the corner last season after scoring 16 goals in 47 appearances for the Gunners.

However, the emergence of Saka on his favorite position on the right wing has resulted in Pepe having seen significantly less playing time in the last year.

Meanwhile, the absence of European football at Arsenal means that Arteta has rarely rotated his team this season, further limiting his playing opportunities.

Last month, Pepe revealed his unhappiness over the lack of minutes at Arsenal during the current campaign.

He said: ‘It’s frustrating not to play. No player enjoys playing, but I have to respect the coach’s decision.

‘When a team wins, it’s hard for a coach to make changes. Mikel has explained it to me and I know I have to work hard in training to get more playing time. ‘
