‘American Idol’ Final 2022: Finalists Noah Thompson, HunterGirl and Leah Marlene put it in the final performances

LOS ANGELES – The voices have come and the new “American Idol” has been named! Noah Thompson takes home the crown.

“It’s great for me to think that so many people voted for me the way you know, to make me the next American Idol,” Thompson said. “I did not expect this experience to end this way, so I am blown away man.”

The three finalists sang Bruce Springsteen’s music in an attempt to win the title.

HunterGirl came in second in the competition and Leah Marlene finished third.

Thompson, Marlene and HunterGirl were good enough to impress the referees all season, and in fact it is fair to say that the trio got them excited right from the start.

Sunday’s finale was like a free concert. The participants, the judges and some big music names performed in a 3-hour, music-filled party.

Among the many musical guests: Earth, Wind and Fire, Melissa Etheridge, Flo Rida and Michael Bublé.

Carrie Underwood was scheduled to perform at Sunday’s finals, but was unable to do so.

“There was a COVID exposure in Carrie Underwood’s group,” host Ryan Seacrest said at the beginning of the show. “So after the protocol, she’s not able to perform tonight. Sad, but you can check her out on her tour, Denim & Rhinestones. That tour is coming this fall, okay. So go and see her.”

Win or lose, all three finalists called their time on “American Idol” a life-changing experience.

“I got into the show and I never know what to expect, but I know I’m going to leave with so much experience, so many people, I’m going to talk to the rest of my life, said HunterGirl.
Finalist Leah Marlene says she loves the energy of a live audience. For her, this whole experience was one big party.

“Music is about sharing a moment with other people, and then, having people to eat from, just like that’s what it’s about, is to enjoy it together and be in it together,” Marlene said.

At 19, Noah Thompson is the youngest of the three.

“I remember going in and seeing the judges. Man, I was scared of my mind,” Thompson said. “I’ve never been so nervous in my life, you know? But now it’s people who are literally bringing that life out of you.”

“American Idol” returns for season 21.
