Alone in the Dark, the classic survival horror series, returns thanks to Pieces Interactive.
As announced during today’s THQ showcase, the publisher is reviving Alone in the Dark after acquiring the franchise from Atari SA in 2018. Described as a “love letter” to the original series, Alone in the Dark once again follows private investigator Edward Carnby as he dives down at Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally ill.
Along with Edward, players will also play as Emily Hartwood, the niece of the manor’s missing owner. Each character will experience the events of the game from a unique perspective. Watch the first trailer below.
Alone in the Dark will tell a new, original story, but still recreate elements from the 90s survival horror video game, including characters, locations and themes from the original. You will fight your way through horrifying monsters while solving puzzles and exploring Derceto Manor at your peril.
During a media briefing, the developers revealed that an important theme for Alone in the Dark is to channel the flavor of Southern Gothic, which is especially appropriate given the Louisiana setting. We also saw gameplay, which included a third-person perspective with Edward shooting at some particularly gnarly monsters.
Pieces Interactive has brought in Mikael Hedberg as lead writer on the game. Hedberg has previously written the horror games Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA for Frictional Games
Alonge in the Dark will be released for the next generation consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as well as PC.
