Abbott will release certain baby formulas made at troubled facility in Michigan

Abbott Laboratories will distribute supplies of certain nutritional preparations designed for people with rare metabolic diseases made at a factory in Michigan, which is the subject of a study by the Food and Drug Administration into possible bacterial contamination.

Abbott said Friday that it is releasing the formula for free to patients on a case-by-case basis at the request of the FDA to ease deficiencies.
