MANILA, Philippines — Jonna Perdido will miss the University of Santo Tomas’ UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball campaign due to an ACL tear on her left knee.
The Varsitarian — the school’s official publication — on Tuesday reported that Perdido underwent a successful surgery Monday last week and it will take six to nine months to recover.

It will be a big blow to the Tigresses’ campaign this season with Perdido coming off a breakout year where she led the team to a Season 86 Finals trip before they got swept by National University.

Perdido suffered the injury after an awkward landing during their five-set loss to Far Eastern University in a bronze medal game of the Shakey’s Super League Preseason Championship in November last year.

The hard-hitting outside spiker helped UST win the V-League Collegiate Challenge last year.
UST coach KungFu Reyes will rely on other open hitters Xyza Gula, Kyla Cordora, and Renee Peñafiel to conspire with Rookie of the Year Angge Poyos.
The Tigresses trained in Japan ahead of the UAAP volleyball season, which fires off on February 15.
UST still has an intact line-up from last year’s finals with team captain and libero Detdet Pepito, setter Cassie Carballo, and Reg Jurado.
