Donald Trump survived a bullet that nearly pierced his right ear, but the bullet itself “passed through” Britain, rekindling fears heightened by the appearance of the “ghost on the roof”.
Hours after the attempted assassination of the US president, Royal Security transferred King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, after discovering a suspect on a rooftop.
Royal Security quickly moved Charles, 75, and his wife, 77, from an outdoor exhibition where they were chatting with local residents to a nearby hotel for protection.
A witness who was speaking to the king while this was happening said that protection officers came and said: “He has to go now.”
Security staff working in cooperation with police noticed a person on a rooftop overlooking St Helier Square in Jersey, one of the Channel Islands, where the royal couple were entertaining island residents.
Police arrested the suspect but later released him, and the incident was declared a false alarm.
Context
Monday’s security squall came just two days after a fatal flaw in U.S. intelligence allowed a would-be assassin to shoot Donald Trump from a nearby rooftop.
The former US president was speaking at a Republican Party rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday when he was shot by Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, who was later killed by Secret Service snipers.
The Crooks’ attack inadvertently killed a volunteer firefighter, while two other election conference attendees were injured.
Well-informed sources have confirmed that there were no security concerns during the King and Queen’s visit to Jersey and Guernsey following the attempted assassination of Trump.
But Ken Wharfe, a former royal protection officer, said: “If the attempt on Trump’s life had not happened, it probably would have gone unnoticed and the action might have been different.”
The newspaper said the king and queen left the hotel shortly afterwards, to cheers from flag-waving supporters.
Australia’s Nightmare
In 1994, exactly 30 years ago, King Charles, then Crown Prince, was the victim of a failed assassination attempt in the Australian city of Sydney, in an operation similar to the Trump assassination attempt.
The Trump shooting is considered one of the worst blunders in the history of the American secret service.
Yesterday, reports emerged that the Princess of Wales was among the public figures being tracked by Donald Trump’s would-be assassin on his phone.
Then Thomas Matthew Crookes saved Kate’s photos before attempting to kill the former US president.
The FBI has seized and analyzed the shooter’s two phones and laptop since Saturday’s attack.
They also discovered that he was looking for US government figures such as FBI chief Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
There were also photos of Trump and President Joe Biden at political caucuses.
