119 percent growth of passengers through Sharjah Airport in first quarter to 3 million

Sharjah Airport achieved positive results and remarkable growth in passenger numbers, cargo volume and air traffic during the first quarter of 2022. From January to the end of March last year, it received more than 3 million passengers compared to 1.3 million passengers in the same period in 2021, an increase of 119.2%.

Aircraft movements in the first quarter recorded an increase in the number of flights by more than 89%, registering 21,336 flights, compared to 11,279 flights in the same period last year. In terms of air freight traffic, Sharjah Airport recorded more than 39.566 thousand tons, a growth of 26.39% compared to the same period last year, of which 14.457 thousand tons were only during the month of March.

Ali Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said: The easing of international travel restrictions and the gradual recovery from the “Covid-19” pandemic, which allowed airlines to resume their previously suspended flights, helped achieve positive growth rates , which is in line with the tireless efforts made by Sharjah Airport to deliver the highest standards of safety and security for travelers and customers during the pandemic, to make the experience of traveling to and from the Emirate Sharjah easy, safe and characteristic.
